Township notifies water customers water service line is UNKNOWN and may contain lead or galvanized materials

The material of the water service line to some water customer addresses has not been verified by physical verification or existing records. Until the material can be verified, an assumption is made that the
service line may contain or may have previously contained lead or galvanized materials.
For the Township to improve the accuracy of its existing records, we are requesting that water customers provide a picture of the inside plumbing connection where the service line meets the water
meter.

Pictures can be taken on a smart phone or tablet device and emailed to [email protected].

Emails should contain the subject:

Water Service Line– followed by the water customer’s full address (including city and state).

Lead can cause serious health and developmental problems, especially in developing fetuses and young children. Because your service line may contain or may have previously contained lead, you
could be at an increased risk of lead exposure. The township wants to notify you of this risk and provides information to help you reduce your risk of lead exposure.

Please visit Michigan.gov/MILeadSafe for more information about sources of lead and what you can do to reduce your exposure.
In addition to your service line, other plumbing fixtures in your home may contain lead or galvanized pipe and could increase the levels of lead in your drinking water. These may include faucets, valves, and soldered joints. It is recommended that homeowners contact a licensed plumber and have a plumbing assessment done to determine if your in-home plumbing could be a source of lead in your drinking water.
